Do we respect our elders!!

yesterday i visited my local temple. There a prayer meeting was being held for peace of a deceased soul,an old man.On seeing the solmen atmosphere my eyes grew moist and i prayed for the peace of departed soul, unknown to me.It was then, i realised that the atmosphere was not solmen at all.All the old ladies were discuusing their family issues, younger ladies were exchanging notes on fashion, men were exchanging business cards and some bored teenagers were talking about movies.A young grl was busy exchanging glances with a young boy. After the prayer meeting all assembled helped themselves with the refreshments and left after customary respects to the depated's family.Ten minutes later even the departed man's two sons were normal as by then everybody had left.Only the widow was sitting remorseful in her chair ,her face hung heavy with grief and shock. In the whole gathering ,probably she was the one who was pondering over the graet loss.Loss of a lifelong companionship that becoems too valueable in old age.Is this the way to treat the memories of a departed soul.

Floods in Thar Desert

Thar desert in Rajasthan,India is a place where sighting of water is considered the most auspicious sign -given the fact that collection of two pots of water daily is a hard task.To meet the water deficit ,given scanty rainfall and low water table, since last 5 years goverment has been rooting for waterharvesting programmes and has been aiding NGO's with limited success in it due to harsh weather conditions. This year government started drought relief programme as soon as monsoon season began.Suddenly the skies opened up.Intailly people were happy to see rainfall but soon the deluge flooded villges destroying army posts, houses,
roadways, railways and claiming innocent lives. Its a freak
case ,a rarity not seen in last 200 years. In Ramayan ,its written that Thar desert was created due to a bow of Lord Rama and before that bow it was a area troubled with floods.
In all it can be said this is the result of global waring and ecological changes. So we must gaer up to save our enviorment and restore ecological balance.

Is Left Right in creating disturbances in UPA alliance at centre.

P. Dasmunsi,India's minsiter for parlimentary affairs ,in his capacity as a congressman has stated that left is free to withdraw support from government of Manmohan singh. This step has been taken after repeated thraets of left of withdrawing support. Are this velied threats of left are for real or they are empty, just to armtwist government to further reduce economic reforms that too when Left run West Bengal is going ahead with them in full stream. This statemnt of Mr. Dasmunsi came after Communist Party of India's (Marxist) leader and West Bengal Tourism Minister Manab Mukherjee yesterday said the Congress-led UPA would have to follow the Left's model of economic development and the survival of the central government depended on Left support. It also reflects goverment's unwillingness in toying the line of Left in all decisons that when Left has extended only outside support to the government.
Already India is lagging behind other Asian tigers in attracting FDI esp. in infrastructure.Left's pressure has resulted in delay of modernisation of Delhi-Mumbai airports ,blockage of sale of loss making PSU,government interfernce in industy(phrama price control ,being a case in point), reservation in higher education (when the need is for creating more centres of higher learning),increased unionisation ,abolition of labour reforms and many other things.
If all this is not enough then many times it supports opposition while being a coalition patner at the centre.Where are we heading.God Knows!!

Strom in a tea cup

British introduced tea planation in colonial India and pushed it aggresively after the apperance and popularity of tea bags across the atlantic. Now things have come to a full circle as the company i.e. Tetely ,which introduced tea bags in Britain is the subsidiary of Tata Tea.Tetely is the leading tea brand in Britin ,France,US, Australia and Canada. Then the world's leading company in speciality tea, incidently British,Good Earth has also been acquired by Tata tea. With this it has become a leading player in global tea market-an area that was the exclusive preserve of British for centuries that too on the strength of Indian tea.
If this is not enough then Tata Tea has brought in 40% stake in Energy Brands, a strong player in US beverage market.Way to go.After all globalisation is not that bad esp. considering the fact that "East India Company",once the symbol of colonisation in India ,is now owned by an Indian .What make tea more sweeter is the fact that the company which provides terry towels to wimbeldon has been bought by an Indian company. All the relics of raj are slowly passing hands and now seem to have become the slab that marks the arrival of Indian enterpenuers in global trade arena.Hurray!!!

obc reservation in higher eductaion

The reservation issue ahs raked up again and infuriated medical community all over India. The idea seems noble as it provides a gateway for deprived to coem forward in mainstream. But the cost involved is huge. Imagie a situation where a OBC student with mere 50% marks studies in a remier institution i place of an 98% holder.
This is unfair.
Instead the deprived must be provided with education at affordable levels and employment opportunities.Comapnies like Infosys have shown the way.It prvoides education and midday meal to students from poor background irrespective of caste and religion.Similarly schoold can be asked to provide free or affordble eduation to students from deprived backgrounds irrespective of caste and religion. This will integrate them with mainstream. Also our educational system also needs overhauling. It must emphaise more o vocational training.Hope the fire of reservation dies soon and justice is done.
