why dont attitudes change

Attitude- a common probelm with parents of grown up or teenage childern.A lot can be attributed to generation gap, which has become wider with youth warming up to western ideology.Parents too used to childern following their commands suddenly find it bewildering when childern ,sometime sin twenties ,wants to make thier own choices esp in most important life decisions like career, home and marriage.
A lot of older or senior generation was brought up in an enviormnet where casteism (meteing unequal treatment to low caste) and discrimination on basis of religion (like keeping separate utensils for those from different religion) was practised and this was followed rigorously on choice of social circle. The new generation finds such ideas baseless and somtimes even the most religious of the lot (devloted to god) dont practice such differeniation as no religion teaches discrimination.
The probelm becomes more acute in cas eof girls who are considered meek followers of family traditions as elders are supposed to make all the decisons for them.so with changing times its alright to educate girls ,involve them in buisness(letting them even runit) but when it comes to make their life decisions then elders will do it .suddenly conservatism raises is ugly head.so more u try to change mindset of older generation ,more it remains the same.Instead they want you to change in name of tradition despite the fact their so called traditions are no where written in ancient scriptures and religious books(that gave equal rights to women.)Often its a woman who subjuctes another to mental pressure.
this is resulting in a new phenomeon -childern moving out or resenting parental authority if parenst dont want to change.hope the current generation is more receptive to cahnge when their turn comes as parents.

what is most important

today iwas wondering about where my life is headed.that brought me to the question what is the most important desire that needs to be fulfilled? do we really know what we want? how important it is to follow parental directions and till when?what if the choices made by me turn out to be wrong as nobody knows what future has in store. After all we live for what and for whom? important questions and ifumbled for answers.first time in life iwas not clear about where life is taking me.or why should i lead my life as others want me to as its my life after all.
I paused for few mintues and searched within for answers and also asked for God to give me a signal. suprisingly i knew what i wanted .The god's signal too came and it goes with my decision.
i realised its time to break free from shackles and live life for the fullest as a day lost is lost for everand never comes back.
Live today and as u never know whether that tomorrow comes or not. So that you dont regert that u let the chance of a lifetime go by.

Dhriubhai Ambani-rags to riches story

Reliance Industries -the company witha market capitalisation of almost Rs 190,000 crore (Rs 1,900 billion)was founded by late Dhirubhai Ambani-a man who worked at petrol depot in Aden and lived in a samll onebedroom rented apratment.Dhirubhai rose from humble beginnings to found India's largest industrial empire and, in the process, became one of the world's richest men. He transformed the way big business operates and thinks in India.
Manubhai Phulchand Sheth-was the first employee of Reliance Industries and here ishis account of how Relaince was formed.Manubhai was the unemployed brother of Dhriubhai friend ,so he was taken in the new venture.
"In 1958,Dhirubhai had capital of Rs 15,000, his life's savings and with that he Dhirubhai fixed up a place in Masjid Bandar. Dr Dalal was a medical practitioner at 240, Narsi Natha Street, Bhaat Bazaar, Masjid Bandar, Mumbai. That become our first business address.
We became a sub-tenant by keeping a divider in Dr Dalal's dispensary. Our first office was around 200 square feet. I think we paid a monthly rent of around Rs 150.Dhirubhai started the business of the export of spices. We first exported cardamom to Saudi Arabia.I used to be a versatile office-worker. I used to sweep and mop our office, served tea and later in the day did some banking. Then I would go out to clients for debt collection."
From humble beginning Reliance ventured into textiles, yarn and petrochemicals to become a big biz giant ,that it is today. He was nicknamed "'Polyester Prince''.He was a master strategist who knew how to manage enviornment and snatch victory from jaws of defeat .He won even after taking on biggies like Nusli Wadia of Bombay Dyeing and R.Goenka of indian Express
Dhirubhai was praised for his key role in shaping India's stock market culture by attracting hordes of retail investors to a market dominated by state-run financial institutions.
when Reliance went public in 1977. Dhirubhai created a new class of Indians -- middle-class investors in stock market.its annual shareholders' meetings were so well attended they had to be held in a football stadium.
And Dhirubhai held his shareholders spellbound, paying high dividends and bonuses at a time when equities were seen as a low-return, risky investment
His biggest success was his ability to carry people with him. From brilliant technocrats to financial whiz kids and high flier managers to small time dealers and messenger boys. His last brainchild was Reliance infocom or Reliance communications -that has slashed mobile rates all over the country and made cellphone a dailyuse item from a luxury.

unity in diversity

India is often called the land of "unity with diversity". isaw it yesterday.I ,a devout hindu, is a regular visitor to the local church. Can attribute it to my college days in a Christain convent. The chruch has a huge beautiful ground.Due to sealing drive there are very few places left for marriages in Delhi.
So the Chruch came to the rescue of one such harrased family. It leased its ground for soleminsation of a Hindu wedding, for free. The ground falls within the premises of Church and the wedding was being held within earshot distance of the chapel, where i was praying to Lord.
Last month the same chruch played host to an unusual wedding. The groom was a South Indian Christain(Hindu converted to Christainty and yet following some Hindu rituals) and the bride was a Muslim. So there was a customary wedding procession(like in hindu weddings on a horse back) ,bride wore a Sari instead of a wedding gown and applied mehndi or hina on both hands and feet. Its very common in keralite south Indians to have christain and hindu relatives.so half the relatives from groom's family were hindus.
I stayed back to see the wedding. Garlands were exchanged along with rings. Then some Hindu rituals(like putting vermillion on bride's forehead by groom ,bride beign given mangalsutra- it has same status in hindus as rings in christainty) were also performed. After the christian wedding both parties moved to the bride's house to solmanise a Nikaah.
This gave me immense joy.and felt like sharing it all of u.

bollywood acting with conscience

elections of Mumbai municipal corporations are underway. in past filmstars have campaigned for different political parties.but this time around there is a new twist.first Salman Khan has fielded and is campaigning actively in support of his makeup man.second from the seat of Juhu
(where most of the stars live) stars have fiielded A.Desouza as their candidate. He has the support of stars like Shabana Azmi(also an active social worker ,secular face of bollywood),Javed Akthar,
Diya Mirza and Jackie Shroff..It is no secert that Ms. Azmi is the most articulate among the actors and her opinion is taken seriously by the bollywood tribe. Desouza has been nominated by the stars as the sitting candidate has not done any fruitful work for benefit of the area.
This is an remarkable and positive change.Earlier only Late Sunil Dutt actively worked for the people. Some like Rajesh Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha also joine dpolitics but only to encash their filmi status and looking for their benefit.
Now stars actively support socail campaigns ,albiet for free, associate themselves with charities and go on border areas to entertain armymen(some still do it for PR).Yet there are likes of Raveena Tandon who not only adopted two of her nieces( after death of their parents) and married one of them before herself getting married and work like a social worker post-wedding.
Hope this trend continues and the effect that Rang De Basanti had on Indian youth, leading to reopening of two murder cases ,also has a rippling effect.
